WECIL shortlisted as finalists for 3 national awards!

We are utterly thrilled to have been shortlisted as finalists in three categories at this year’s Locality Awards!

The Locality Convention is an annual highlight for a number of the WECIL team. Convention is an opportunity for members of Locality, who are all community-led organisations, to come together under a shared belief in the Power of Community and get up to date on best practices and new approaches community organisations are taking to survive, adapt and thrive, and how collectively, we can best influence more support for our sector.

This year, Convention is coming back to Bristol – so WECIL will be one of a number of our close partners who will be taking to the stage, or opening our doors, to share what we have learned from our ambitious work to transform our communities.

The Locality Awards have become an established part of Convention and celebrate the most dedicated and inspiring people and organisations in the Locality network.

WECIL are extremely proud to have been shortlisted as finalists for the following awards:

Power of Community Award

The Power of Community Award celebrates a community organisation working with local people to shape their own future and to build a fairer society where everyone in the community thrives. WECIL’s shortlisting for this award is in recognition of the work of our many peer advocacy groups (such as Know Your Rights and Listening Partnership) and of the voice and influencing work which has had an impact on local policy.

Transforming Lives Award

The Transforming Lives Award celebrates a community organisation whose support has had a significant impact on changing local people’s lives. WECIL’s shortlisting for this award is in recognition of the work of our Navigators in ensuring that Disabled people can build their own chosen support packages around the challenges that they identify for themselves.

Enterprising Organisation Award

The Enterprising Organisation Award celebrates a community organisation that has developed a creative business model that makes them successful and financially resilientWECIL’s shortlisting for this award recognises the incredible growth of our Disability.Inc. social enterprise brand which provides organisations from all sectors with a range of services to improve their access and inclusion, all delivered by Disabled people with experience of the challenges they are facing.

Our Chief Executive, Dominic Ellison, said:

I am absolutely thrilled that we have been shortlisted as finalists in not one, but three of this year’s Locality Awards! Locality is an important network of some of the most innovative and impactful community organisations in the country and has significant influence over how many pulic services are commissioned and curated – in our region both Bristol City and South Gloucesterhire Councils are signitories to Locality’s Keep it Local charter. This is such a wonderful platform to showcase the excellent work of WECIL over the past year in front of the organisations we admire most.
