Voice and Activism

Making the voices of Disabled people heard

Voice your opinion

WECIL has a variety of different opportunities for Disabled people to get involved with to voice their opinions and views on certain issues. We help Disabled people participate in decisions that affect their lives and can help raise issues to decision makers and councils.

Have a say in important decisions, connect with new like minded people, learn about your rights and have the opportunity to make a difference locally and nationally by getting involved in the groups below.

Know Your Rights

Know Your Rights hope for a future where every person with a learning disability and/or autism can fulfil their potential. We work together as a community to break down structural and social barriers faced by people with Learning disabilities and Autism.

Members

Membership to Know Your Rights is open across Bristol,Bath and North East Somerset,  South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset for anyone with a learning disability and/ or autism who want to have their voice heard. We are made up of peer advocate volunteers and people who engage with us as and when they can.

Our services are developed and tested by users with a range of different impairments, to help you make the best choices for you and the Disabled People in your life.

What do Know Your Rights do?

Through monthly peer advocacy meetings for members, both face to face and online, we use our lived experience and knowledge to campaign for change. We help you learn more about your rights, and what is available to you, and feel part of a community.

We also help upskill wider society by offering group support to organisations wanting to be more accessible for those with learning difficulties and autism.

Disabled Women Take Action

We are working in partnership with Bristol Women’s Voice (BWV) for Disabled Women Take Action, to build a community of Disabled women and women with long-term health conditions who are keen to speak up on the issues impacting them. The project provides a valuable opportunity for women to connect, gain new skills, share their experience and work with others to influence practical and policy changes across Bristol.

Want to make a difference? If you identify as a woman, are based in Bristol and are interested in getting involved with Disabled Women Take Action, then please contact Cora Fern- [email protected] or contact the team 0117 947 9911
