WECIL Celebrates Success at the Bristol Social Impact Awards!

We’re thrilled to announce that WECIL was honoured with the Equity and Diversity Award at last night’s Bristol Social Impact Awards!

This prestigious recognition acknowledges our unwavering commitment to fostering equity and inclusivity in all aspects of our work, with the award panel selecting for an organisation that has embedded equitable approaches throughout its strategy and delivery to achieve better diversity.

This award is a testament to the dedication and passion of all of our staff, trustees, volunteers, and the wider WECIL community. Together, we strive to cultivate an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

The award was in particular recognition of the work of WAIT (WECIL Access and Inclusion Team), a group of Disabled people who volunteer their time to improve the quality of life, inclusion and access for all people in Bristol. WAIT work with building owners, organisations, developers and service providers within the private and public sector to improve and promote access and inclusion for all within the built environment, as part of WECIL’s social enterprise consultancy business Disability.Inc.. You can hear from the members of WAIT in this video.

The Award was collected by Alison Browning and Kinny Chinangwa, Business Partners within Disability.Inc., along with WECIL’s Chair, Ruth Pickersgill.

WECIL’s Chief Executive said of the award “This is a fantastic recognition of the work of our volunteers. WAIT are an amazing example of the power of community – a group of Disabled people who use the expertise of their lived experience to advise so that we have a more inclusive built environment for all. The award also highlights WECIL’s commitment to embedding equitable approaches throughout our strategy and delivery to achieve better diversity. We understand that achieving genuine equity across our work involves a continuous journey of learning and growth – we are committed to this ongoing improvement so that WECIL can be a beacon of the inclusion we want to see across society.”

Thank you to Voscur, the organizers of the Bristol Social Impact Awards for recognizing our efforts, and to everyone who continues to champion equity and diversity alongside us!

Let’s keep working together for a more inclusive Bristol!
