WECIL Launches Recruitment for New Trustees

A man in a busy audience raises a voting card during an event. He is surrounded by other attendees, some holding similar cards. Behind them, a row of bright, illustrated posters features influential women including scientists, activists, and astronauts. The atmosphere is attentive and engaged.

We’re excited to announce that WECIL is currently recruiting for new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of one of the UK’s largest Disabled People’s Organisations.

As a user-led organisation, WECIL is proudly led by Disabled people, for Disabled people. Our constitution guarantees that at least 75% of our Board members are Disabled people, and lived experience of disability is not just welcomed—it’s central to everything we do.

This is an exciting time to join WECIL. We’re growing our reach, deepening our impact, and working with partners across the region and beyond to create a more inclusive society. From our work supporting independent living, to innovative projects like Disability.Inc. and online platforms like Create My Support Plan and Know Your Rights, we’re making a difference in the lives of thousands of Disabled people every year.

We are now looking to expand and strengthen our Board of Trustees with people who share our values and are passionate about equality, inclusion and social change. We’re particularly keen to hear from people who can bring insight, energy and new perspectives—whether through professional skills, lived experience, or strong connections to our communities.

We’d especially welcome interest from:

  • Black and minoritised people
  • LGBTQ+ people
  • Younger people
  • Anyone who wants to help WECIL thrive as we move into our next phase of growth

WECIL’s Trustees play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring strong governance, and helping us stay rooted in the experiences and priorities of the communities we serve.

Whether you’ve been a Trustee before or are considering this kind of role for the first time, we’d love to hear from you.
