Fellow Bristol-based Disabled People’s Organisation Bristol Disability Equality Forum (BDEF) are running weekly drop-in sessions for Disabled people at The Vassall Centre in Fishponds (where WECIL is also based). These sessions are a vital opportunity for Disabled people to find peer support, meet new people, share information and discuss issues that may be affecting them – from social care and accessibility to benefits, housing, and job opportunities.
Every Monday (excluding bank holidays), from 1:00–3:00pm, these drop-ins provide a welcoming space for conversation and connection, complete with a cuppa, a biscuit and plenty of opportunities to chat.
Special Guests and Community Connections
This June, BDEF have invited several local organisations and campaigners to join their sessions:
June 2nd
Waythrough will offer free, confidential support for mental health, housing, and alcohol and drug issues. Immy Treasure Smith will be there to share more about their services.

June 9th
Helen Jones will talk about WorkWell West, a free support service for anyone with a Disability or health condition who is struggling to stay in work, return to work, or find new employment.

June 16th
Florence Grieve and Emma Geen will discuss the Bristol Climate and Nature Partnership, focusing on their work to make transport accessible and inclusive.

June 30th
Yiska, Co-Chair of BDEF, Accessibility Consultant and headliner from last year’s Access All Areas will join the session. Yiska is a Disabled artist and a trainer for Attitude is Everything, working to make the music industry and live venues fully accessible to Disabled people.
As a DPO, BDEF ensures these sessions are grounded in the Social Model of Disability, focusing on removing barriers and supporting Disabled people’s full participation in society. These sessions create a supportive community environment where Disabled people can share experiences, raise concerns, and help shape local change.
If you have suggestions for speakers or organisations that would be of interest to Disabled people attending, BDEF would love to hear from you. You can reach them at:
