Volunteer for us
Volunteering at WECIL is a great opportunity to gain new skills, learn about what we do and contribute positively to the lives of Disabled people.
We are looking for Adults aged 18+ to volunteer 2-3 hours a week to support a Disabled Child or Young Person across Bristol and B&NEs.
Time2Share@WECIL’s Befriending Service links volunteers 1:1 with a Disabled child/young person. Links are based on shared interests and activities which the volunteer and young person can enjoy doing together. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, you do not need previous experience working with children or Disabled people to become a befriender – you just need to be committed, reliable and fun!
If you want to gain first-hand experience or brush up on existing skills, we’d love to hear from you.
5 reasons to become a befriender
1. Gain valuable experience
If you want to build up your skills and experience in children’s work, health and social care or in the third-sector, starting out by volunteering is a brilliant way to get started.
2. Connect with a young person
By spending regular time with your child or young person you will be able to build lasting connections and friendships with them that you both value.
3. A flexible role
Perhaps it suits you to do 2 hours a week, 4 hours a fortnight or a longer day less frequently- it is up to you and the family you work with to see what works best!
4. Gain valuable experience
We run socials throughout the year such as Bingo Lingo, and you can meet up with other volunteers with both your children to help build connections for both of you!
5. Contribute toward a wider social movement
We help Disabled people have choice and control over their lives, not only as a service provider but as a voice organisation fighting for Disabled voices to be heard.
